Workshop: Gender-Responsive Climate Cost Benefit Analysis Tool

10th June 2020 11:15am Singapore Time

Session Highlights:

  • There is a growing demand from government policy makers and planners in Asia-Pacific for information on costs and benefits of proposed actions on climate change – whilst also considering the co-benefits (and costs) with respect to gender equality.
  • This session focused on a gender-responsive climate cost-benefit analysis (CBA) tool, developed by WOCAN and UNDP, which incorporates gender analysis to provide a comprehensive picture of impacts and opportunities for women and men. The tool generates co-benefit units that can be coupled with carbon trading units.
  • The workshop broke into three groups to try their collective hands at using the CBA tool, focusing on the gender aspects of agricultural projects being implemented in India to address rising sea levels and deforestation.

This is a two hour skill-building workshop to measure monetary and non-monetary costs and benefits, and benefits for women and men related to climate change and climate-related projects and initiatives.

The objective is to provide a deep understanding of the synergistic impacts that link gender and climate financing as well as the economic benefit of using a gender lens in climate investments.

The workshop will introduce a new tool developed by WOCAN in partnership with UNDP Asia Pacific to conduct a Gender-responsive Climate Cost Benefit Analysis. It will also introduce the W+ Standard, developed by WOCAN to measure and monetize women’s empowerment benefits within projects, to generate co-benefit units that can be coupled with carbon credits from climate projects.

This will be a highly interactive session where direct feedback on the tool will be sought. It will appeal to those who are willing to participate and play an active part in a small group setting. This session will be of particular interest to policymakers, corporate decision-makers and investors.

Access is by registration only.
