Paul Carttar is a Partner with the International Venture Philanthropy Center (IVPC), a catalytic platform to advance and strengthen the practice of social investment globally, currently developing investor networks in Africa and Latin America. He is also a Senior Advisor and co-founder of The Bridgespan Group.

Carttar has more than thirty years of experience tackling management challenges in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. He recently served as the initial Director of the Social Innovation Fund (SIF), a priority program of the Obama Administration that under his watch mobilized more than a half billion public and private dollars to grow promising nonprofits with evidence of impact in low-income communities.

Prior to the SIF, Carttar was an executive partner with New Profit, Inc., where he worked with entrepreneurial nonprofit CEO’s to build strong organizations and expand their scale and impact. Previously, he was Chief Operating Officer for the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, where he oversaw all programs and grant-making activities.

Carttar’s private sector career included several years with Bain & Company, the international corporate consulting firm, and executive positions in two early-stage venture-capital funded companies in the healthcare industry.

Carttar is a frequent writer and speaker on social innovation and other nonprofit issues and has delivered keynote addresses at conferences in Beijing, China; Kaliningrad, Russia; Dublin, Ireland; Berlin, Germany; Bogota, Colombia; Santiago, Chile; Singapore; Seoul, South Korea and Mumbai, India.

Carttar graduated with highest distinction from the University of Kansas and received his MBA from Stanford University.
