Rukmini Banerji is the CEO of Pratham Education Foundation.

Trained as an economist in India, she completed her BA at St. Stephen’s College and attended the Delhi School of Economics. She was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University and earned her PhD at the University of Chicago.

Rukmini joined Pratham in 1996. Over the years she has accumulated extensive experience in designing and implementing large scale programs for helping children acquire basic foundational skills like reading and arithmetic. Till 2014, Rukmini also led Pratham’s research and assessment efforts, which included the well known Annual Status of Education Report (ASER).

Originally from Bihar, she now lives in New Delhi. She enjoys writing for and telling stories to children.
