Soon Wei is the CEO of Art Printing Works (APW), a creative industrial space in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. At APW, he has successfully rolled out ambitious plans to transform the old commercial printing factory into a campus that includes a collaborative workspace, a food-and-beverage belt, and event venues. The APW campus also features pocket parks as part of a collaboration with Think City to realise Projek Poket Pokok, an urban rejuvenation initiative to green up the industrial space.
Soon Wei also manages TRP Heritage Sdn Bhd, which oversees the revival of The Royal Press, a heritage letterpress printing house in Malacca, to transform it into a living museum. The Royal Press is the recipient of grants from Yayasan Sime Darby and CIMB Foundation, which contribute towards conservation efforts and the creation of an educational hub for the craft of letterpress.
In both projects, Soon Wei seeks to ensure that heritage is preserved even as he pivots the businesses for the 21st century to ensure sustainability. His personal mission is to build creative ecosystems around functional spaces, and he is passionate about repurposing spaces while imbuing them with creative ideas.
He has been invited to speak at Harvard, TEDx KL, and has shared about his rejuvenation work in various media and publications including Monocle.
